Parquetry is a floor of hundreds of small timber blocks laid in a pattern - beautiful, but it moves and lifts over the decades. Restoration means re-gluing loose and drummy blocks, replacing any that are missing or split, filling the gaps, then sanding the whole floor flat and refinishing it as one surface.
Because the grain runs in different directions across the pattern, parquetry has to be sanded with extra care and the right sequence to avoid scratching. It’s slower, more skilled work than a straight board floor - and exactly the kind of restoration we love.
