Pre-finished, engineered and bamboo floors have a thin wear layer - sanded the wrong way, they’re ruined. We measure first, then bring them back safely.
Engineered boards have a real-timber top layer bonded over plywood; bamboo is harder but just as unforgiving. Both can usually be sanded and recoated - but only once or twice in their life, and only if there’s enough wear layer left. Get it wrong and you sand through to the substrate.
That’s why we always measure the wear layer and check the board before we commit. If there’s enough timber, we sand fine, level and recoat. If there isn’t, we’ll tell you honestly and recommend a recoat-only or a different approach - never a sand that wrecks the floor.

Yes, most can - but only if the wear layer is thick enough, and usually only once or twice over the floor’s life. We measure before we start so there’s no risk of cutting through to the ply.
Bamboo and strand-woven bamboo are very hard, which makes them durable but slow to sand. They can be refinished with the right grades and patience - we’ve done plenty.
Bevels mean we can’t fully flatten the floor without removing the bevel, so we usually recoat or lightly sand to keep the V-grooves. We’ll explain the trade-off for your specific floor.
Then we won’t sand it - we’ll recommend a screen-and-recoat or, if the floor is past it, an honest conversation about replacement. We won’t take a job that ruins your floor.
