A Palm Beach renovation wanted the bright, beachy Hamptons look - pale floors that bounce the light around an open-plan living space. The existing European oak was warm and yellow under an old satin coat, too heavy for the airy feel they were after.
We sanded the oak back to raw timber, then worked a white limewash pigment into the open grain by hand - the step that gives that soft, chalky coastal colour without painting over the timber. Getting it even across a big open floor is the tricky part.
Over the limewash we laid a clear matte waterbase coat to lock the colour in and make it livable - spill-proof and easy to clean, with none of the ambering a solvent coat would have added back.
The result is exactly the pale, sun-washed floor they pictured - the grain still reads through the white, and the whole space feels twice as bright. Three days on site, and the limewash will hold its colour for years under the matte coat.

“It completely changed the feel of the house - so light and beachy now. Exactly the Hamptons look we’d been chasing.” - The Wilsons, Palm Beach
