A Coolangatta pool deck in merbau had faded patchy and dry - full sun, chlorine splash and constant bare-foot traffic had taken the life out of it. The owners wanted it warm, even and safe underfoot before the swimming season.
We sanded back the grey, sun-bleached surface to fresh merbau and evened out the blotchy colour. Around a pool, splinters and proud fixings are a real hazard, so every board was made smooth and every screw re-set flush.
For a pool surround we chose a buffed-in burnishing oil at natural - quick to refresh, friendly underfoot when wet and easy to top up ourselves. Merbau’s deep red-brown came straight back under the oil.
The deck is rich, even and smooth again - ready for a summer of wet feet and pool parties. A maintenance oil each year will keep it there. Two days on site over the pool surround and steps.
