A Robina family lifted a corner of their tired bedroom carpet and found tongue-and-groove hardwood underneath. They called us to find out whether the whole house was hiding a floor worth saving - it was.
We pulled up the carpet, underlay and a few hundred staples, then cut the hardwood back through three grades to clean timber. Decades of gaps were filled, a handful of paint spots lifted and a few water-stained boards near the bathroom blended in.
With kids and a dog, they wanted low-maintenance and natural underfoot, so we finished in a modified poly oil at matte - the soft, contemporary look with easy spot repairs down the track if a chair leg ever digs in.
